Columbia Junior Volleyball Club

"Since 1990, the purpose of Columbia Junior Volleyball has been to provide the highest level of volleyball competition, and the best volleyball experience for our players. As a club, we strive to be the best on and off the court, and to help our players to be the best they can be in volleyball, in the classroom, and in life."

Columbia JVBC 2018-2019 Season

Youth Volleyball arrives at Columbia

For the first time in our 29-year history, Columbia plans to offer a Youth Volleyball program to young players. We have a limited number of spots available in this program, and interested parents should contact Lead Coach Jennille Schab quickly.

What's different about Youth Volleyball?

  • A shorter season than our Junior USAV teams (sometime in December thru April.)
  • A lower impact practice schedule (3-4 times per week on Sunday afternoons.)
  • A low travel playing schedule (a Youth Jamboree in Spokane in February, and hopefully some scrimmage days mixed with practices.)
  • Lower costs: $300 per player spread into payments from December thru February.
  • Lighter balls (the same as our U-12 Junior team uses.)
  • Younger players (age 11 and under - players must not turn 11 before Sept. 1st of this year), and players can be several years younger as well.

What do players receive?

  • The same great coaching techniques used throughout our program.
  • T-shirt and spandex uniforms.
  • Preparation both for club and school tryouts as players prepare for middle school age teams.
  • A fun experience, introduction to volleyball skills, and a head start on the great sport of club volleyball.
  • The beginning of a lifetime of memories, experiences, and fun!

For more information, contact Coach Jennille before entry to the program closes.

Scrimmage Day!

Columbia 14, 15, 16, and 18-Black will participate in inter-club and intra-club scrimmage on Sunday, Dec. 10th. All four teams are expected to play 2-3 scrimmage matches. Players for those teams should be at the gym by 11:30am. Parents are invited to watch, but should remember that these are training matches and won't always reflect the same player roles we expect for tournament play in January.

Columbia 12-Black's practice has been shifted to 2:30, but they are invited to come early and watch our older teams as well.

Make travel plans for Hartner Memorial on MLK weekend. (Updated)

Columbia 15-Black, 16-Black, and 18-Black are released to make travel arrangements for the Hartner Classic. Columbia 15-Black and 16-Black have PM wave on Saturday, but may still want to choose to arrive Friday night. There is no recommended hotel for this tournament, but there is hotel information on the tournament website. Update: a few U-15 and U-16 teams WILL play Saturday morning. We don't yet know if our teams are in that group.

Update your USAV memberships!

Players (or Parents) please make certain that you change your club to "Columbia Jrs" in your USAV  of the webpoint account. We won't be able to see you in the list until then. (For Oregon players, we know you have to wait for your Region to change.)

Email Chris when you are updated, or if you need help.

Don't miss this camp!

One of the most instructive volleyball camps for HS & MS age players is returning this July. Don't miss the chance to work with Dr. Mashallah Farokhmanesh (Associate Head Coach at UNLV) on both general and positional volleyball skills. His collegiate programs have made 11 trips to the NCAA tournament, including three sweet 16 appearances and twice in the Elite 8.

The All-Skills camp is July 10-12, and the Positional Skills camp is July 13-14. Both camps are at Southridge HS this year, and players can sign up for both camps to have a full week of instruction.

For more information, check the camp brochure for registration information.

Post-Season updates

We're steadily adding to our information for teams headed to post-season Summer tournaments. Check out our Post-Season Team Update Center by clicking the menu entry on our schedule page. We have three teams already scheduled, and we may add additional teams. Keep checking back as we add information.

Thank You!

We'll have more about the results shortly, but a very big thank you to all the players and parents who worked so hard to make both Columbia tournaments a success this weekend. We had lots of fun, drank plenty of coffee, saw some amazing volleyball, and hauled plenty of garbage out at the end of the day. These tournaments couldn't happen without lots of people pitching in to make everything happen. We notice when players and families pitch in, and we're very grateful for all the help!

A big thank you as well to Steve Bump who served as our day official for both days. Steve did a great job!

Grade Reports are due

Columbia players in High School need to bring a COPY of their latest grade report showing grade point average to their coach. Bring your copies to practice no later than Sunday, Feb. 26th. (Team coaches will give copies to our club director.)

Middle School age players should bring a copy of their most recent progress report. (They probably don't have gpa yet.)

How to be famous. The 2017 edition.

If you've been watching Columbia's website for any length of time, you know that we write about every team's results. When we have great results to write about, we also like to include photos. Sometimes, we are actually waiting for a team photo to do the story about another championship. We get those photos from all kinds of places... text or email messages to Chris, Instagram (columbiavb), Facebook (it helps to be friends with Chris, find him), Twitter (@columbiajrs), or even (believe it or not) handed to us on disk or usb.

If you've got a great couple of photos, send them to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it., and remember to take a team photo EVERYTIME your team wins out at the end of a tournament. We love those championship photos.
