The largest age group in CEVA Power League (U-14) uses a two weekend pool and challenge bracket system for January Qualifying. Columbia's U-14 teams finished their qualifying runs this past Sunday.
Columbia 14-Black was missing a middle hitter, but shifted their lineup and shook off their first weekend nerves to edge their seeding up to #28 overall. (At one point, 14-Black held #19 during the day.) The 14-Black girls went 4-1 for the day and swept their pool. 14-Black will play next in the CEVA I Diamond Division.
Columbia 14-Red had a second tough day losing the second and third tie-breaker games of their qualifying efforts. The three tie-breaker losses kept the 14-Red girls from holding their seeding, and the team slipped to #78 overall. 14-Red will play next in the CEVA III Columbia Division.
14-Black scores: defeated #45 Banks 4-1 25-17, 25-20; defeated #35 Webfoot 14-3 Green 25-18, 26-24; defeated #19 Salem 14-1 Black 25-15, 25-16; lost to #28 NW Reign 14-1 22-25, 19-25; defeated #35 OVA 14-1 Nationals 25-21, 19-25, 15-13.
