Columbia JVBC 2019-2020 Season

Columbia 16-Red reaches Snowball Consolation Final

Columbia 16-Red opened their tournanment season at the Selah Snowball tournament with two of their sister teams. 16-Red was prepared to shake off the winter/first tournament jitters, but wasn't prepared for a last minute pool play surprise. The change in schedule contributed to keeping the 16-Red girls from winning their pool and advancing to the Championship bracket, but didn't stop them from recovering and reaching the Consolation Final match. 16-Red went 3-2 for the day.

16-Red scores: lost to Team Yakima 16 Gold (0-2); defeated Selah 16 W (2-1); defeated Lokahi 16 Kanunu (2-0); defeated Lokahi 16-2 (2-0); lost to Lokahi 16 Kanunu (1-2)

Columbia 15-Black starts season at Snowball

Columbia 15-Black began action at the Selah Snowball Tournament on Sunday. The 15-Black girls took 2nd in their pool and advanced to the Championship bracket, but faced a quarterfinal showdown with their sister 16-Black team (forcing the second set to extra points). 15-Black finished 5th overall (Championship Quarterfinalists) in the 14 team tournament.

15-Black scores: defeated Club Lokahi 16-2 25-4, 25-16; lost to Shockwave 16-2 21-25, 21-25; defeated Selah 16 Black 25-23, 25-19; lost to Columbia 16-Black 12-25, 24-26.

Columbia 12-Black begins tournament season

Columbia 12-Black started their 2015 tournament season playing at the Block & Awe Tournament in Yakima. Columbia's youngest players went 2-2 for the day. Only a hard fought tie-breaker loss (17-19) kept them from sweeping their pool and probably advancing even higher in the Championship bracket. Their run ended in the Championship Quarterfinal and they finished 5th of 12 teams in the tournament.

12-Black scores: defeated Team Yakima 12 Black 25-22, 25-17; lost to Club Selah 12-1 Blue 25-21, 17-25, 17-19; defeated Shockwave 12-1 25-11, 25-22; lost to Club KB 12-1 Blue 22-25, 12-25.

Columbia 14's finish Power League Qualifying

The largest age group in CEVA Power League (U-14) uses a two weekend pool and challenge bracket system for January Qualifying. Columbia's U-14 teams finished their qualifying runs this past Sunday.

Columbia 14-Black was missing a middle hitter, but shifted their lineup and shook off their first weekend nerves to edge their seeding up to #28 overall. (At one point, 14-Black held #19 during the day.) The 14-Black girls went 4-1 for the day and swept their pool. 14-Black will play next in the CEVA I Diamond Division.

Columbia 14-Red had a second tough day losing the second and third tie-breaker games of their qualifying efforts. The three tie-breaker losses kept the 14-Red girls from holding their seeding, and the team slipped to #78 overall. 14-Red will play next in the CEVA III Columbia Division.

14-Black scores: defeated #45 Banks 4-1 25-17, 25-20; defeated #35 Webfoot 14-3 Green 25-18, 26-24; defeated #19 Salem 14-1 Black 25-15, 25-16; lost to #28 NW Reign 14-1 22-25, 19-25; defeated #35 OVA 14-1 Nationals 25-21, 19-25, 15-13.

Columbia 14-Black opens 2015 season at Power League

Columbia 14-Black opened their season at the first day of CEVA Power League Qualifier under something of a handicap. Restricted to starting practice only after November 31st (and with four players new to club volleyball), they had a little catch up to play against their elite competition in CEVA. Still, the 14-Black girls proved they could compete, held their #29 seed (thanks to a schedule that saw them playing only opponents from the top 21 teams in the league), and shook off a lot of early mistakes to get themselves ready for Day two. 14-Black will be #29 again (of 144) and will play in Salem this Sunday.

Scores: lost to #13 NW Reign 14-1 16-25, 23-25; lost to #4 OJVBA 14-1 Gold 11-25, 12-25; lost to #20 Cowlitz 14-1 Black 17-25, 24-26; lost to #21 NCVBC 14-1 Black 7-25, 21-25 - to finish 29th (of 144)
