Columbia JVBC 2019-2020 Season

Columbia 17-Black win when it counts most

In Power League, it's the crossover first round that determines most of your fate each month. When the tie-breaker rules forced Columbia 17-Black out of a multi-team tie in their pool to a crossover match that could have dropped them from the Bronze Division, the Columbia ladies made sure to take care of business. With that win, they held their place in the division, and will have the chance to move up again in March.

Columbia 17-Black scores: lost to MAC Juniors 18-1 Black 26-28, 22-25; defeated (#19) Webfoot 18-2 Silver 25-16, 13-25, 15-9; lost to Lebanon Warriors 18-1 19-25, 25-13, 13-15; defeated Roseburg 18-1 Black 25-10, 25-18; lost to Lebanon Warriors 19-25. (2-3, 5-6) - Bronze Division

Columbia 16-Black wins CEVA Power League Silver Championship

Columbia 16-Black, CEVA Power League 1 Silver ChampionsColumbia 16-Black swept thru the Silver Division at CEVA Power League on Saturday. With only seven players available, the Columbia ladies had no subs, but still had a libero to help them over the top. These seven ladies just wouldn't be denied enroute to the Silver Power League Championship. With their victory, the team moves to 11th of 120 teams overall, and will play in the Gold Division next month. Congratulations everyone!

Columbia 16-Black scores: defeated Portland 16-2 White 25-19, 25-20; defeated Volleyball West 16-1 Black 25-23, 26-28, 15-6; defeated OVA 16-1 Nationals 25-22, 25-22; defeated Webfoot 16-2 25-20, 25-27, 15-13; defeated OVA 16-1 Nationals 25-11. (5-0, 9-2) - Silver Champions, Qualifies to Gold Division

Columbia 16-Red remains in Diamond at CEVA Power League 1

Too many unforced errors stopped Columbia 16-Red from climbing from the Diamond Division at Power League on Saturday. The Columbia ladies easily took 2nd in their pool, despite plenty of errors. Several close losses seemed to dampen this team's spirit for the crossover matches. 16-Red clearly has the talent to climb higher, they'll be looking to improve their focus at their next chance to advance. We expect these ladies to loosen up and open up their offense very soon!

Columbia 16-Red scores: lost to T.E.A.M. Hiki No 16-1 25-20, 22-25, 13-15; defeated adidas NW 15-1 Matt 25-14, 25-16; lost to North Clackamas 16-2 Red 25-20, 23-25, 14-16; lost to Cowlitz 16-1 16-25, 23-25; lost to Trails End 16-1 Bryan 16-25. (1-4, 4-7) - Diamond Division, 32nd (of 120 teams.)

Columbia 17-Black, Silver Champions at Block Party

Columbia 17-Black, VIP Block Party Silver ChampionsColumbia 17-Black captured the Silver Championship at the VIP Block Party this weekend. The Columbia ladies only loss on the day kept them from going after the Gold crown, but their 5-1 record for the tournament shows how well they are playing.

Columbia 17-Black scores: defeated Club Lokahi 18-2 25-6, 25-5; defeated Midstate VBC 18 25-6, 25-8; lost to MVA 18-National 16-25, 17-25; defeated VIP 18-1 25-12, 23-25, 15-5; defeated Club Lokahi 18-1 25-11, 25-15; defeated CRU VBC 16-Baden 15-25, 25-23, 15-12. (5-1, 10-4) - Silver Champions

Columbia 14-Black holds place in 1st Division of CEVA Power League

Columbia 14-Black was missing two players out sick on Sunday, and many of the remaining players were fighting illness as well. Still, Power League qualifying went on... The Columbia ladies knocked off one higher seeded team in pool play, but gave that ground back in a tough crossover loss. The ladies finished by qualifying for the Diamond Division, #32 of 148 teams in the league. Rest up and fight on ladies!

Columbia 14-Black scores: lost to (#9) Adidas 14-1 Matt 16-25, 16-25; lost to (#8) Excel NW 14-1 Rox 12-25, 15-25; defeated (#25) NW Reign 14-2 25-20, 25-15; lost to (#24) Portland 14-2 Green 18-25, 23-25. (1-3, 2-6) - Diamond Qualifiers

Columbia 13-Black improves at Mid-Winter Classic

It's always hard playing as an odd-year team, constantly playing tournaments against older opponents. After a fast start at their first tournament, the girls of Columbia 13-Black had a rough time at their second tournament. Sunday, they had their third opportunity, and the girls took advantage. Despite some bad luck in having both the eventual tournament champions, and a championship quarterfinalist team both in their initial pool, Columbia 13-Black won a pool match to finish 3rd in their pool. The girls earned a first round bye in Consolation with that win, and although they weren't able to advance further in the bracket despite pushing their first bracket set to 24-26, they finally played a tournament with another U-13 team in the field, and finished ahead of that team. The Columbia girls also improved ther bracket finish over the previous tournament. Keep up the work girls, we see you improving!

Columbia 13-Black scores: lost to CB Elite 14 9-25, 21-25; defeated Team Yakima 14-4 Linda 25-15, 25-19; lost to Goldendale VBC 14 Gold 24-26, 15-25 (this team won the tournament, and Columbia's youngest team pushed them past 25 points in the first set); lost to Sweets 14-2 Blue 24-26, 11-25. (1-3, 2-6) - Consolation Quarterfinalists

It's Comeback Division for Columbia 14-Red at CEVA Power League

The ladies of Columbia 14-Red started off well at their CEVA Power League Qualifier on Sunday, winning their first two matches. A tough loss to a good Rimrock team slipped them to #46 (of 148 teams in the field), but it was the crossover matches that hurt their final qualification standings. A loss in their first crossover held them at #46, but prevented them from vaulting back to #38. A loss in their final match after a long first day of Power League play for all these ladies, finally qualified them at #54 and the Comeback Division. Now that they've been through a day of Power League, we suspect these players are ready to move back up. Turn it up ladies!

Columbia 14-Red scores: defeated NPJ 14-3 Orange 25-10, 25-19; defeated Wave 14-1 Gold 26-24, 26-24 (this was a great match to watch); lost to Rimrock 14-1 Ann 13-25, 14-25; lost to Aces 14-1 Elite 15-25, 15-25; lost to North Clackamas 14-3 White 19-25, 15-25. (2-3, 4-6) - Comeback Qualifier

Columbia 14-Black reach Sweet Spike Championship Final

Columbia 14-Black, 2017 Sweet Spike FinalistsColumbia 14-Black swept their pool at the Walla Walla Sweet Spike to move to the Championship bracket, then ran their win streak to five matches before falling in the Championship Final match. Along the way, the 14-Black ladies won two extra points tie-break sets, but a THIRD tie-break set in the Championship final that also went into extra point proved too much. We know these ladies will be able to push over the top next time. Great job!

Columbia 14-Red meanwhile had a tough start. Drawing the eventual tournament champion as their first opponent, they struggled to recover and finished 3rd in their pool, holding their original seed. 3rd meant Consolation, and the 14-Red ladies won their semifinal to reach the Consolation Final, but were unable to pull out the final win. Keep pushing forward ladies!

Columbia 14-Black scores: defeated Sweets 14-2 Blue 25-14, 25-10, 25-6; defeated O-Town 14 Black 25-15, 24-26, 19-25, 25-21, 16-14; defeated Eastern Oregon 14 Red 25-17, 25-15; defeated Eastern Oregon 14 White 24-26, 25-18, 17-15; lost to Club Lokahi 14-1 25-23, 14-25, 15-17 (5-1, 11-5) - Championship Finalists

Columbia 14-Red scores: lost to Club Lokahi 14-1 17-25, 9-25; lost to Eastern Oregon 14-1 White 25-13, 21-25, 9-15; defeated O-Town 14 Red 25-21, 25-16; defeated Shockwave 13 12-25, 25-23, 15-11; lost to EHEAT 14-1 20-25, 20-25. (2-3, 5-7) - Consolation Finalists

Columbia 16-Black qualifies Silver at CEVA Power League

Columbia 16-Black struggled at the start, but rebounded to qualify in the Silver Division at #17 of 121 teams overall on Sunday.  A tough extra point tie-breaker in their first match was all the difference to keep them from their shot at Gold. The Columbia ladies will be a #1 seed in their pool for February play, and have a good opportunity to move into the Gold Division. We're certain they can do it!

Columbia 16-Black scores: lost to Volleyball West 16-1 Black 18-25, 25-15, 22-24 (epic tiebreaker); defeated Excel NW 16-2 Gold 25-13, 25-21; lost to MAC Juniors 16-1 Black (#8 overall) 17-25, 18-25; defeated Webfoot 15-1 Gold 25-15, 26-24; defeated T.E.A.M. Hiki No 15-1 25-16. (3-2, 6-3) - Silver Qualifier

Columbia 16-Red goes undefeated at Power League, qualifies Diamond

2017 Columbia 16-Red, CEVA PL Qualifier Bracket ChampionsColumbia 16-Red ripped off five straight wins on Sunday, winning their Qualifier Bracket, and launching themselves into the Diamond Division and the top tier of CEVA Power League. Despite their now gaudy 10-2 match record over their first four days of play this season, once again their initial seeding held their final placement down. The ladies of 16-Red will play in the Diamond Division next month. They'll be #30 in the 121 team field, but we expect them to continue to move up, and their tournament seedings should start to reflect how well this team is playing. (It's hard to do better than undefeated!) Great work ladies!

Columbia 16-Red scores: defeated MAC Juniors 16-2 Red 25-16, 25-23; defeated Game Day 16-1 25-19, 21-25, 15-13; defeated OVA 16-2 Elevate 25-16, 25-6; defeated WAVE 16-1 Gold 25-11, 25-17; defeated Portland VBC 16-3 Silver 25-19, 25-14. (5-0, 10-1) - Diamond Qualifiers
