Fees

For parents who have not been involved with Columbia in prior years, our fees are similar to other clubs in our area. Columbia teams generally play a much more competitive schedule on the same fee structure however, and play more tournaments than most other club teams. Because of that, our cost per tournament is usually much lower than other clubs, but travel expenses for parents who attend all the tournaments are sometimes higher.

What's included: (list is from last year, 2020 items may be different) 2 sets of uniforms (jerseys and spandex), warmup jacket, 1 team bag, 1 warmup team shirt, team/player insurance, equipment, gym fees, coach travel expenses (Columbia coaches are all volunteers and are not paid), tournament fees (Columbia teams usually play a minimum of 10 tournaments, but (for instance) all our teams played more tournaments than that in 2013 and all but two in 2014.) Note: clothing items included may change from year to year. Developmental teams receive spandex and t-shirts instead of the full clothing/bag package due to reduced fees.

What's not included: Player USAV membership, player travel expenses, socks, shoes, kneepads. (Families are also responsible for their own travel arrangements.)

Post-season: Teams that qualify and play post-Memorial Day tournaments (AAU Nationals in Orlando, USAV Nationals, Summer Soiree Invitational in Disneyland, Volleyball Festival, etc.) will pay additional fees to cover entry and coach travel for those tournaments.

Payment schedule: Players will pay a startup fee due at commitment (or shortly after), and three monthly payments in Jan, Feb, and March. (Families who need assistance may request extended schedules by contacting Club Director John L.) Note: Developmental teams have payments in only January and February (after the initial payment.)

Fundraising: Columbia does not require fundraising by players (some clubs do), but individual teams/players are free to do fundraising on their own if they wish. (Columbia will provide support for these efforts.)

Scholarships: Columbia does not carry funds over from year-to-year (our budget each year is done team-by-team) and therefore doesn't have funding for scholarships. There are scholarship resources within the Evergreen Region. More information can be found here.

2019-2020 Fees by team will be posted as soon as we set tournament schedules (all teams are budgeted individually, younger teams do not subsidize older teams)

Education

Columbia Juniors Volleyball is committed to education. We're a college-prep program that expects our players to seek higher education after high school. While we strive to help as many of our graduates realize their dream of playing in college as possible, we're just as proud of those who go on to college without continuing to be student athletes.

Columbia believes that learning to succeed in education is the key to success in life. To back up that belief, Columbia restricts participation to students who maintain at least a 3.0gpa in High School. We require regular grade checks for our athletes, and work with parents to help any player who encounters difficulty in school. The best athlete still won't be able to play in college without the ability to get good grades, and students who are struggling are better off spending their time in the library instead of on the court.

Columbia takes other steps to help our student athletes as well, including restricting our practices during standardized testing periods. We aim to increase our assistance to our players and their familes by providing resources for help with preparing, applying, and financing for college.
