Columbia JVBC 2019-2020 Season

HS Age Teams Suspend Club Season for School Season

Columbia JVBC is suspending all club activities for HS aged players until after March 25th to allow our players to concentrate on their High School season. (Columbia 14-Black will continue  to practice and their season will continue as planned. Their next practice will be at 5pm on Monday.) It's important to our club that our players are free from distractions during their school season and able to enjoy playing with their school teams.

We'll see all of you again after March 25th and have a great school season!

Remember to maintain your HS gpa above 3.0 so that you are in good standing when we start club season back up!

Tentative Tournament Schedule

Columbia teams will begin a tentative tournament schedule January 10th. Watch for dates to be posted, but confirm all trips with coaches or Club Director John L. In the current environment, all our tournament plans remain tentative.

Practices begin again December 20th

Teams will practice in Lewiston on December 20th and 27th (no U-14 on the second day.) We'll see everyone there.

Remember to check the calendar before practices

Always double check our calendar before heading to practice. Sometimes things change. We'll see everyone again on Saturday!

Evergreen Region Membership Changes

The Evergreen Region of USAV Volleyball (which includes the area served by Columbia) has changed the registration process for yearly memberships. All players should register for the 2020-21 season here: https://evergreen-region-volleyball.sportsengine-prelive.com/memberservices

Players must be pre-registered for Junior Memberships prior to any tryout or practice with Columbia JVBC.

Columbia's Statement of Intent for the Upcoming Season

There is a lot on uncertainty about how the Evergreen Region of USA Volleyball intends to put together the upcoming season. Columbia JVBC is waiting to find out many details just like everyone else. Here are a few things we CAN say about what will happen:

  • Columbia won't participate in practice or tournaments for High School age players during a Spring High School volleyball season. We won't create a conflict for players with their high school teams.
  • Columbia won't participate in practices or tournaments that we don't feel are safe for our players and families.
  • Columbia WILL endeavour to make this season instructive and fun for our players, no matter how the season is structured.
  • Columbia is a college-prep program and will continue to expect student athletes to demonstrate 3.0 or higher gpa during our season.

We will continue to post updates as we get more information.

Next Steps for 2021 Season

Players (and Parents) who were offered positions on Columbia teams for the 2021 season should watch for additional information by email in the next few days. If you have questions in the meantime, contact Club Director John L (text is fastest...)

We'll post a practice schedule at least a week ahead of the first practice. Since we don't know a potential tournament schedule yet, we are still determining fees. Initial fees will be the same as last year, but no fee is due yet.

ERVA extends season suspension

March 13, 2020

Region Membership,

In the interest of welfare and safety for our membership, USA Volleyball is eliminating the sanctioning for all USA Volleyball activities effective 11:59 p.m. Friday, March 13. The ban is on all USA Volleyball-sanctioned activities through March 31, 2020, including but not limited to tournaments, practices, individual training sessions and anything covered by USA Volleyball insurance.

The ERVA Executive Board & staff will convene again to discuss the next steps regarding the new mandates (from 3/13/20) by Washington State Governor Inslee and we will send another release soon.

Thank you for your understanding,

ERVA Board & Staff

Practice suspended

Practices are currently suspended for next week. We will re-evaluate each week wait for ERVA to determine when we can safely resume practices. Keep checking back!

Evergreen Region Suspends Events for 30 days

March 12, 2020

Region Membership,

Following the direction of Washington State leadership & Health Authorities, we believe that it is our responsibility to be mindful citizens, and leaders in our community. Therefore, we are suspending all ERVA-hosted events and rescinding ERVA sanctions for junior and adult club-hosted tournaments for a 30-day period, through April 12, 2020.

As this public health crisis evolves, we will continue to evaluate the landscape in Washington and provide an update regarding future events by Wednesday, April 1, 2020.  This includes the ERVA Regional Championships, ERVA HP Tryouts, Border Smackdown and any ERVA sanctioned club-hosted tournaments.

Club directors, please fully educate yourself on the recommendations of the appropriate agencies regarding sporting events and social gatherings.  After you consider the recommendations, should you choose to continue to hold practices, we expect that your organization will be prudent about following those recommendations.

We know these decisions and the issues we all face present challenges. However, after seeking counsel from USA Volleyball and local health authorities, we feel this decision is in the best interest of our members and our communities. We will keep you updated and continue to work diligently alongside you to answer questions and find solutions.

Thank you for your understanding,

... from the Evergreen Region Office
